Mounting Heights for Medical Gas Products

There's always the question of "how high do I mount 'X' product?" The general rule of thumb is to mount the item so a caregiver or other hospital personnel can reach the product when needed but otherwise stay out of the way. In the case of a zone valve box, or another item with a gauge, the gauge should easily be read without the need of a ladder. But the tricky part is people come in all different sizes! Typically, items are designed for a caregiver that is approx 5' 6" tall, but exceptions can be made on a job by job basis. (note that some states or jurisdictions may have height standards different from those posted here) With that said, here are the typical heights of medical gas products from the finished floor:

wall outlets:                                5' (60 inches) to the center of the outlet
zone valve box:                          5' 6" (66 inches) to the top of the zone valve box
area alarm:                                5' 6" (66 inches) to the top of the alarm
master alarm:                            5' 6" (66 inches) to the top of the alarm
nitrogen control cabinet:              5' 2" (62 inches) to the bottom of the panel
fixed ceiling column:                   5' 3" (63 inches) to the bottom of the column
retractable ceiling column:           5' 10" (70 inches) to the bottom of the column
ceiling hose drops:                      6' 4" (76 inches) to the bottom of the hose assembly
ceiling arms / booms:                 consult manufacturers recommendations
